Local time in Lagrangian mechanics

We show that under the replacement of time by a local in Lagrange equations, form equations is maintained if Lagrangian does not depend explicitly on time. also study corresponding modifications Hamilton and Hamilton--Jacobi equation.

Classically time is kept fixed for infinitesimal variations in problems in mechanics. Apparently, there appears to be no mathematical justification in the literature for this standard procedure.
